Raising the GAF level 

If you own or manage a business, division, department, project, group or team, there’s one thing you do automatically and (usually) subconsciously with every interaction you have. You check the level of ‘Give a F**k’.Every time you walk into a meeting, call a customer, read an email, meet a team member in the corridor, or even just walk past an open door and glance at your design team at work, some part of you is assessing “How much do these people / this person give a f**k?”.

It’s natural (and if you’re not doing it, you shouldn’t be leading). The problem is, it’s so natural, so visceral, so subliminal, that it’s only when the cumulative input over a long period of time reaches “Not a lot“, that we do anything about it.

Your challenge: Next week, bring your GAF level assessment to the forefront.
Check the GAF levels consciously, get a sheet of paper, and write down what you conclude. Use a 1-5 scale if it helps (you can have fun writing the scale descriptions). Most importantly, analyze what you’ve found at the end of the week and decide where you need to raise the GAF level, and what you’re going to do about it.

Oh, and you Solopreneurs? This applies equally to you. What’s the GAF level for each thing you do: marketing, selling, delivery, dealing with vendors, accounting…whatever. You need that conscious week and a sheet of paper, too.
