Being aggressively static

Being aggressively static isn’t the same as being left behind. There’s a difference between choosing to do one much-desired thing well, and continuing to do one not-much-desired thing because you can’t (or won’t) think beyond past glories.

The American motor industry got left behind, the South African diamond industry is aggressively static (very aggressive – too much so for many people).

The newspaper industry got left behind, the music industry is – finally – learning to be aggressively static.

Gap got left behind, Brooks Brothers learned to be aggressively static.

AOL got left behind, Craigslist is aggressively static.

To repeat: There’s nothing wrong with choosing to do one much-desired thing well.
