The OFF Switch

Zero cost. No learning curve. Instantaneous productivity increase.

When I’m coaching executives on personal productivity, the number one source of immediate productivity gains is almost always their use of the telephone.

For many people, the concept of ‘always-on’, ‘always contactable’ has become a given – just watch for how quickly the cell phones get switched on when a ‘plane lands. If you want to get things done, do yourself a favor: switch the ‘phone off.

Let voicemail take care of it for an hour or ninety minutes. You’ll be more productive, and you’ll feel less hassled.

Tip: If you find your sense of identity or personal worth is threatened by switching off your cell phone, seek help!
