For most organizations, getting to Predictable Success® requires a radical overhaul of the roles of the senior managers.
The leadership style perfectly suited to getting an organization out of the ‘Early Struggle’, and through ‘Fun’ is not the leadership style required for Predictable Success®.
I’ve listed this item first (and in my client work, usually address it first), because this is often where the biggest impediment to breaking out of Predictable Success® lies.
This is because the founders / owners of an organization, or those who have managed it through the early years of struggle, and who have seen the business through the Fun stage, are unwilling (or don’t see the need) to change their personal style of management.
This is understandable. Their reaction is: after all, wasn’t the business a roaring success for so many years? Didn’t I manage the business perfectly well then?
The reality is, as we shall see with the other Key Factors, what was successful during the ‘Fun’ years will not get the organization to Predictable Success®. The organization needs a different type of management – what I call transitioning from charismatic leadership to professional leadership.
